SUMMARY:Kinship Families: A Community Conversation
DESCRIPTION:Please join us on Wednesday\, June 24\, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM for a community conversation focused on kinship families and the unique challenges faced by children who have lost a parent to substance-related causes and are being raised by other family members. You can register for this free event here. \nKerry Bickford\, from Grandparents Raising Grandchildren\, will join us to share insights into the experiences of caregivers supporting children impacted by parental loss due to substance use. Kerry will discuss the organization’s work\, the current landscape facing kinship families\, and available resources and supports. This session is designed for direct service providers\, community partners\, and others interested in learning more about the needs of kinship families. \nParticipants will have the opportunity to ask questions and engage in discussion about strategies\, resources\, and ways to better support these children and caregivers. \nAbout our presenter: Kerry is a founding member of the Commission on the Status of Grandparents Raising Grandchildren in MA and a grandparent peer grief specialist for SADOD. She is a certified grief educator and has helped develop grief resources for grandparents raising grandchildren with the National Alliance on Children’s Grief. Kerry facilitates three grief support groups monthly for grieving grandparents/kin\, and two for parents who have lost a loved one to a substance-related cause. \nThis is part of the CONNECT 2026 Education & Training Services. For more information\, please contact Nicole St. Hilaire\, CONNECT Outreach Manager at nicole@opioidtaskforce.org.

SUMMARY:Overdose and Grieving: How the HALO Initiatives and the NQCC Can Help
DESCRIPTION:Please join us on Thursday\, June 25\, 2026\, from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM to learn more about available resources to support those who have lost a loved one to overdose. You can register for this free event here. \nHealing After Loss to Overdose (HALO) Initiatives is a community-focused philanthropic program dedicated to supporting individuals who have lost a loved one to opioid overdose. Through HALO Initiatives\, surviving family members receive support and financial assistance to address both immediate needs and long-term challenges related to health\, healing\, and community connection. By providing direct financial support\, HALO aims to mitigate the intergenerational trauma that impacts families after an overdose death. A recent recipient of a RIZE Massachusetts grant\, the HALO Initiatives is interested in expanding its efforts statewide. \nThe North Quabbin Community Coalition also offers support and grief resources for residents of the North Quabbin Region. They will be able to share what they have done to support loved ones who need both practical and emotional support when someone has died from an overdose. \nThis is part of the Opioid Task Force 2026 Education and Learning Series. For more information\, please email us at info@opioidtaskforce.org.
